Shoulders workout: Built your muscles at home
Warm-up (5-10 minutes):
Start with a dynamic warm-up to increase blood flow and prepare your shoulders for the workout. Arm circles, shoulder rolls, and light cardio movements like jogging in place can be effective.
Shoulder Workout:
1. Shoulder Taps:
●Start in a high plank position.
●Alternate tapping your left hand to your right shoulder and your right hand to your left shoulder.
●Engage your core to prevent swaying.
●Aim for 3 sets of 15-20 taps per side.
2. Pike Push-Ups:
●Start in a downward dog position with your hips raised high.
●Lower your head towards the ground by bending your elbows, keeping your legs straight.
●Push back up to the starting position.
●Aim for 3 sets of 8-12 reps.
3. Superman Y Raises:
●Lie face-down on the floor with your arms extended in a Y shape overhead.
●Lift your chest, arms, and legs off the ground simultaneously, forming a "superman" position.
●Lower back down with control.
●Aim for 3 sets of 10-15 raises.
4. Handstand Wall Walks:
●Start facing a wall in a plank position.
●Walk your feet up the wall while walking your hands towards the wall.
●Continue until you're in a handstand position with your feet resting against the wall.
●Slowly walk back down to the plank position.
●Aim for 3 sets of 3-5 walks.
5. Arm Circles:
●Stand with your arms extended straight out to the sides.
●Make small circles with your arms, gradually increasing the size of the circles.
●After a set, reverse the direction of the circles.
●Aim for 3 sets of 30 seconds each.
6. Quadruped Shoulder Taps:
●Start on your hands and knees in a tabletop position.
●Lift your left hand to tap your right shoulder, then return it to the ground.
●Alternate sides, tapping each shoulder.
●Aim for 3 sets of 15-20 taps per side.
Cool-Down and Stretching (5-10 minutes):
Finish your workout with gentle stretches for your shoulders, upper back, and neck. Stretching helps relieve tension and improve flexibility.
●Rest and Progression:
Rest for about 1-2 minutes between sets to allow your shoulders to recover. As you become more comfortable with the exercises, gradually increase the number of reps and sets for progression.
●Safety Considerations:
Ensure proper form throughout the exercises to avoid strain or injury. If you experience discomfort or pain, stop immediately. Consult a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise routine, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions.
By following this home shoulder workout routine, you can effectively target your shoulder muscles without any equipment. Consistency and proper technique are key to seeing progress over time.
